Detroit’s rise and fall and rise again.
Detroit is a city that seen its fair share of crashes. Once a mecca of industry and labour, it’s now almost one third derelict. Where once there were busy factories and work plants there now lies empty and broken buildings. But as we’ve seen time and time again empty spaces, a lack of amenities and a cheap cost of living are the perfect ingredients for creative communities to blossom.
Shown above is a guided tour from local Detroit artists, musicians and entreprneurs who are rebuilding the city on their own terms. These communities are working together for the benefit of the city. It’s inspiring. Something I was completely unaware of is how Detroit is pioneering the Urban Farming movement. Local residents are reclaiming land and setting up their own city farms. In many cases the food produced is given away for free to the less fortunate in the neighbourhood.
Right now, if we could generate small ideas like this as we are re-building, Ireland could be in great shape for future generations.
