Streetwise Streetview
Bill Guffey is an American oil painter who’s idea is simple and brilliant. Using Google’s Street View he travels the world looking at places he’ll probably never visit. A very 21st century thing to do. Once he finds a spot he likes he then sets about painting it. A very 20th century thing to do. He’s painted landscapes everywhere from rural France and Italy to urban America and Portugal. You can see more of his work in an article the Daily Mail wrote called Vincent Van Google.
Another smart use of Street View is a service called Art Project (also run by Google). Using the same navigation tools, users can browse 17 of the world most acclaimed museums including London’s Tate and National Gallery and New York’s MoMa and Metropolitan Museum. A nice feature of Art Project is that users can create their own collection from the 1000+ pieces in the museums. This can then be commented on and shared with the whole wide world.
We will all have square eyes soon.
