Turn Tape Over And Over And Over
Synth Eastwood recently had the pleasure of booking Swiss A/V Duo Inflagranti. I remember being totally surprised by their ages when booking the flights (passport scan above). Unlike their Rock band cousins, who usually have more of an emphasis on public image, many electronic acts can be listened to for years before you see what they look like, often leading the listener to craft a heavily inaccurate image in their head based solely, and erroneously, on their music. Inflagranti’s sound is raw, with a real cut-and-paste aesthetic that had me imagining them as twentysomething youngsters when, in fact, they’re older than several large hills.
Poking round for previous releases, I found a sweet selection of mix tapes that Sasa Crnobrnja – one half of the group – recorded over 18 years ago for a night called Organic Grooves in NYC. The tapes, and their current label Codek, are glorious proof that they have been at the cutting edge of new music for a number of decades now. This dubby mix of world music and soulful tones has been a quality working companion for me of late.
This mix was recorded straight to cassette tape in 1993… I hope you enjoy it.
