Kickstart The Syntheshredder
I’ve become a little obsessed with Kickstarter and other crowd funding sites like Fundit. For anyone unfamiliar with these sites they basically give anyone with an idea the platform to raise capital to fund their project. Everyone that pledges money will receive “something” depending on the type of project and on how much they pledge. If the idea doesn’t reach it’s goal everyone gets their money back. Everyone likes risk free investments right? Recently it was great to see Irish band Ten Past Seven reach their goal and record new music.
A really interesting project comes from LA native Jesse Chorng. He wants to complete an interactive installation utilizing live sound and skateboarding. He calls this The Syntheshredder. A 20ft diameter skate bowl will house sensors embedded under the surface. These will be hooked up to custom hardware and software which will turn the bowl into a instrument and the skater into the musician. Jesse wishes to collaborate with many musicians and artists and will press a 12″ record of tracks produced by the Syntheshredder.
