What’s the difference between Ireland and Iceland?

January 27, 2011 by Dave

There was a joke doing the rounds in the run up to Ireland’s bailout… ‘What’s the difference between Iceland and Ireland?’ Answer: ‘One letter and six months’. The prediction was painfully true and we’re all too familiar with our new relationship to Iceland.

At a time like this it’s often much easier to get hung up on the negatives, especially when there’s a hell of a lot of common ground. So in the face of this it’s great to see that people can still find the time to highlight some of the more favorable connections. One such project is the Ireland:Iceland Project — an experimental, creative, and collaborative project borne out of a wish to focus on the positive relationships between Ireland and Iceland… and if there’s one thing we love it’s a good collaborative project!

The project hopes to bring together Irish and Icelandic artists, thinkers, makers and doers — who have an eye on attempting to ‘illuminate the exceptional times we live in’. The plan for 2011 is to put together a series of these projects, sleepovers, installations, expeditions, pilgrimages, rites of passage and site-specific performances in both countries.

Have a peak and get involved… HALLÓ Ísland!
