Posted by AlDec 2011This set has a nice concise title "The Topographic Projections and Implied Geometries Series". The photos were created by american artist Jim Sanborn in the mid 1990s and despite the far from snappy name they are most beautiful in every way. Using monstrous projections and long exposures, Jim transforms these natural landscape compositions including Kilkee, County Clare and Longsturn, County Cork into something quite different altogether. More Please Jim.... [Read more]

Posted by Synth EastwoodDec 2011This fine structure is a collaboration between artists Ivan morison and Heather Peak, architect Sash Reading and craft production experts Queen and Crawford. The outcome is a beautiful piece of design sculpture very tastily shot and immortallised here.... [Read more]

Posted by Synth EastwoodDec 2011While there is still time before meaningful work resumes in the New Year pencil yourself an evening to afternoon to watch this. Dave Gorman is a stand up comedian and begrudging novelist that right here tells a story as good as any other available. To attempt to explain the premise of this spiel would be more confusing than beneficial but take my word for it, you will be left both enthralled and charmed.... [Read more]

Posted by AlDec 2011Today we revisit upon a fine mix in the yule time flavour from Radio Na Gaeilge's Cian ó Cíobháin, lovingly published by the Shock World Service in the winter of 2008. Never before has a mix demanded so much to be accompanied by an open fire and a pint of mulled wine. Take it away Cian. Download below.... [Read more]

Posted by Synth EastwoodDec 2011Christmas is a time for sitting down over-eating and watching films. The last couple of years I've felt let down with the supply on offer from the RTE Guide. So, this year I am attempting to build up a selection of the finest holiday feature lengths that i can enjoy at my Baileys-clad leisure. First up I am getting my hands on the Back to the Future Trilogy. Please advise of your quintessential xmas favourites and/or good suggestions for all to organise.... [Read more]

Posted by AlDec 2011I have been in Dublin 10 years now and have always admired the building situated at 4 Camden Street Upper. Sadly during this time it has remained empty and boarded up. Once the workshop of Earley & Co. ecclesiastical suppliers, their legacy still stands visible from the road in the circular stain-glass window. Regrettably this forgotten architectural relic is unnoticed by millions each year. Today however... [Read more]

Posted by Synth EastwoodDec 2011Christmas is a time for love when people come together in the spirit of the season. Those men and women at the seats of world power should be the first to lead the line. Benetton's UNHATE campaign uses either world class political charm or clever photoshopping to make that dream come true. The shots feature some familiar faces including Barrack Obama, Pope Benedict & Kim Jong-Li (who passed away yesterday.)... [Read more]

Posted by AlDec 2011Are you losing the head over what to buy a loved one this christmas? Why not buy them a copy of your own face? Japanese company Real F have developed and now manufacture very life-like face masks to order. The masks are plotted from a series of angled photographs, sculpted to match the 3d shape, then printed to provide the scarily accurate finish.... [Read more]

Posted by Synth EastwoodDec 2011Today was the first day of winter snow in Dublin this year, so as a terrified Steve Manning disconnects his phone for a couple of days it's a good time to ask why these past few winters have witnessed such agreeably festive weather, and if perhaps we as a species are doing anything to precipitate it ourselves. Scientists have long said that dramatic seasonal temperature shifts are a telltale sign of global warming. ... [Read more]

Posted by AlDec 2011In a new feature for Synth Eastwood we take a few minutes with friends and colleagues to ask them where they are, what they're up to and what's on their mind. We call this the "Syntherview". Number one on the hot seat is human swiss army knife Chris Judge.... [Read more]
