Posted by AlOct 2011Cody Haltom is a Texas based designer/illustrator who makes a lovely brand of simple clean graphics and usually with a healthy dose humour. He works with the excellent Public School group but his own site is full of golden nuggets too. Have a dig around for yourself here. ... [Read more]

Posted by DaveyOct 2011I must admit I've been to galleries and spent more time in the shop reading David Shrigley books rather than viewing the work being exhibited. I could spend a week of blog posts highlighting my favourite Shrigley sculptures, animations, music and photographs but instead I am going to focus on people who tattoo themselves with his illustrations.... Posted by AlOct 2011These days nearly all communication is digital. The only physical letters I receive today are from phone, gas and electricity companies or a yearly speckling of birthday cards from aunties. I can scarcely imagine the excitement of opening an envelope to any one of the following letterheads and their corresponding messages. Shaun Usher is a letter fan and has made ... [Read more]

Posted by AlOct 2011The Rhythm Weekender kicks off this Thursday with a stellar Irish line up of new talent and new incarnations of more established greats. Taking to the Button Factory stage is Parish, a project assembled by Kerry legend Donal Dineen consisting of hot-house-flower Liam O Maonlai & a host of skilled musicians, Congolese Niwel Tsumbu, Aminah Dastan from Madu plus Andre Antunes and Peter Erdei. Spilly Walker needs less introduction, brothers David and Robbie Kitt ... [Read more]

Posted by AlOct 2011Live web stronghold the Boiler Room is going from strength to strength this year. Proof of that is in the line up tonight, where Radiohead's Thom Yorke performs a rare Dj set. With support coming from Jamie XX, Caribou, Lone and Illum Sphere. What better way to spend a Tuesday October evening, than huddled round the wireless with some choice beats? ... [Read more]

Posted by AlOct 2011Never before have I seen parking lots and rubbish look so well. San Francisco artist, Jenny Odell takes the satellite perspective to a new level by collecting recurring man-made structures that appear on earth. She trawls through Google's space-shot imagery and creates new random patterns by organizing structures and sites into bundles. Lovely stuff altogether.... [Read more]

Posted by DaveyOct 2011Last year we saw Banksy take charge of the ever-changing opening sequence to The Simpsons. Now it's the turn of John K, creator of probably my favourite animated series "Ren & Stimpy". I'd love to see a whole episode animated in this style.... [Read more]

Posted by AlOct 2011Since early on Mano le Tough aka Niall Mannion has been attracting attention from the likes of Tensnake and Prins Thomas. 2011 has been his busiest time to date with a cluster of remixes and two EP's released. One on Buzzin'fly records and the most recent his second record on Prins Thomas' own Internasjonal label. Both well worth a listen as Mano starts to introduce vocals into his productions. ... Posted by AlOct 2011Ever wonder what becomes of film extras? Are they forever people in the background who have been watched but never seen? This clever series of photographs by Miranda July puts those very people into centre stage. She re-shoots herself as all the forgotten cast members from famous films. Re-dressed, re-posed and remembered. Her website is well worth a ... [Read more]

Posted by Synth EastwoodOct 2011Tuesday can be a slow day for a lot of people – often seeming a long way from the relaxation of the weekend. Here is a clever video from, now SE blog regulars, Everynone. All footage is plucked from the bottomless pit that is YouTube. Don't let that put you off though, stick with it till the end. Its hard to deny the natural support we feel for laughing.... [Read more]
