Posted by AlJul 2011"The Art of the Title" is a highly addictive website, craftily compiled and presented by Ian Albinson and his team. His founding hope for the website was to pay homage to the often overlooked and under-credited movie title sequence. The site is full of amazing examples of opening sequences, stills from drafts, interviews with the artists and all often from films that didn't live up to the promise of their opening. ... Posted by Synth EastwoodJul 2011Synth Eastwood and Dublin promoters Nightflight are old friends. This Saturday they've asked our own Simon Cullen (Lasertom and The Blast Crew) and long time SE collaborator Mano Le Tough to take the stage. Have a listen to Mano's mix above and start the weekend now.... [Read more]

Posted by DaveyJul 2011"In 1978 the world was a very different place. Punk was in ashes, Elvis was not long dead and John Lennon was yet to be assassinated. Music came in analogue form, unsullied by a digital age which was still a hazy blur on the thought horizon. It was in this year that the Rough Trade record label began...."... [Read more]

Posted by AlJul 2011I read an article last week about iPhone photo-journalism and there was a quote from photographer Melissa Lyttle who said "The best camera is the one you have with you". That makes a lot of sense relating to "Splitscreen: A Lovestory" as it has been entirely shot on a camera phone. The director and writer was JW Griffiths and the film was voted winner of the Nokia Shorts competition and deservedly so. Very simple idea artfully nailed.... [Read more]

Posted by DaveyJul 2011Mathias Lachal is a French animation graduate who has treated us to his final film entitled "Chute". It's fast paced, experimental style really makes me want to take the plunge and go skydiving. With the weather we're having I think the only chance we'll get for some sun is to go above the clouds.... [Read more]

Posted by AlJul 2011JDS are an international company of architects/designers that know their way round a site of land. This week the group set up by Julien De Smedt have proved they also pay the same respect to online sites. If you are unfamiliar with them the above introductory video should fill you in but do take the time to have a look through their projects. They are awe inspiring. From apartments to olympic ports to modular shelves, care and class is pumped into each brief. ... [Read more]

Posted by Synth EastwoodJul 2011Last year the Roads Safety Authority teamed up with Setanta Insurance to start a campaign to raise awareness to the dangers of speeding. They set up a creative competition to write an ad highlighting the topic, set out a brief and offered the chance to win 3000 euro plus the opportunity to have your ad made by a team of young professionals. This is a great approach by RSA as not only does it give a leg up to fledgling writers and youthful production companies but... [Read more]

Posted by AlJul 2011Belgian outfit Soulwax/2manydjs have a habit of reinventing themselves. First the semi-big indie driven live act, Soulwax. Then the massively famous mash up pioneers, 2manydjs. Then back to the band but dance driven and on a much larger scale. In the last number of years they have stepped up the re-touring of their 2manydjs show and despite a waning interest from the critical world, last week they proclaimed a new relevance with a super project putting a modern angle on their trade mark style. ...
