Posted by DaveJan 2011There was a joke doing the rounds in the run up to Ireland's bailout... 'What's the difference between Iceland and Ireland?' Answer: 'One letter and six months'. The prediction was painfully true and we're all too familiar with our new relationship to Iceland. At a time like this it's often much easier to get hung up on the negatives, especially when there's a hell of a lot of common ground. So in the face of this ... [Read more]

Posted by DaveyJan 2011I, like a lot of you out there have been tuning into the award winning HBO series Boardwalk Empire. It's set in Atlantic City in the Prohibition era with Steve Buscemi in the lead. Watching the pilot's title sequence I knew I was in good hands as Martin Scorsese produces and directs. Besides the odd dodgy Irish accent it really is great television. Five episodes in and I came across the video above. I had heard about the 300-foot "period-perfect rendition" of... [Read more]

Posted by AlJan 2011I’m not too keen on “The Street’s” Mike Skinner when he’s in his cocksure rapper mode and to be honest his music’s appeal for me dropped off early on, but today I tip my tweed hat to his current mode of attack. Skinner has always been a one man band and now he seems to have taken the online promotion of his upcoming album all on his own shoulders too.... [Read more]

Posted by KarlJan 2011Pogo aka Nick Bertke is a man who knows a thing or two about cutting and pasting. So much so that right now he is fundraising to embark on a 'real world remix tour' where he plans on recording audio and visual footage in different cities and destinations around the world to remix into an A/V album. A really... [Read more]

Posted by KarlJan 2011Late last year I finally joined the smartphone revolution by signing myself up to an iPhone 4. Like most people I fell in love with the world of apps and downloaded anything and everything that caught my eye. Police scanners, camera effects, football games and music samplers filled every bus trip, toilet break (sorry) and mass service.... [Read more]

Posted by AlJan 2011Chromaroma is a very clever use of the information that is stored within a London commuters Oyster travel card. It turns real life locations and transport routes into the platform (pun) for a point scoring game that encourages an exploration of the capital. Ireland recently has grasped Dublin bikes with both hands and with the new underground train... [Read more]

Posted by DaveyJan 2011An all star line up of international animators are in Dublin today for ISA CON 2011. Pixar's Adam Burke will speak in the Sugar Club tonight about his involvement with "Day & Night" - one of my favourite animations of 2010. The ISA CON is run by the Irish School Of Animation which is based in the Ballyfermot College of Further Education. The school has produced many world renowned animators such as Academy Award winning... [Read more]

Posted by KarlJan 2011Following on from Nosaj Thing's brilliant A/V test sets last year we see him team up with Parisienne Romain Tardy aka Aalto for a one off show as part of Prague's Lunchmeat Festival 2010. What made this show a little different was that Aalto hand built a stage to map his visuals onto... 3D visuals projecting onto 3D screens... 6D? See the multi-dimensional results here. Also well worth stopping by Nosaj Thing's site... especially recommenced is his remix of Islands by The xx.... [Read more]
